1. Anand (1971)

Amitabh Bachchan's top 5 films

Anand was a story about a terminally ill man who believes in spreading love and happiness amongst people. Dr Bhaskar Banerjee (Amitabh Bachchan) is a doctor upset with his profession as he cannot save the lives of many poor people. One day, he meets Anand (Rajesh Khanna), a cancer patient. Anand and Bhaskar bond and Anand helps him confess his love to a woman he liked.

As time passes Anand’s condition begins to deteriorate and he passes away. However, with Anand no more, everyone remembers him as a bright and vibrant personality who knew nothing but to love. This Amitabh Bachchan movie really takes you through a special journey as you laugh, cry, sing and learn to live life with Anand. Both Amitabh and Rajesh are top-notch in the film.

2. Chupke Chupke (1975)

Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Chupke Chupke was a remake of the Bengali film Chhadmabeshi and starred Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Om Prakash, Usha Kiran, David Abraham Cheulkar, Asrani and Keshto Mukherjee.

In the film, we see a newly wedded husband play a prank on his wife’s family with full support from his wife and his friendsDharmendra and Amitabh are truly amazing in the film and their comic timing is something to die for.

3. Pink (2016)

Minal (Taapsee Pannu), Falak (Kriti Kulhari) and Andrea (Andrea Tariang) are three independent women living together. One night, Meenal is sexually molested by Rajveer (Angad Bedi) but she manages to escape along with her three friends. The girls want to take their revenge for him for his actions and take the help of attorney Deepak Sehgal to fight the case.

Pink was backed by solid performances by the entire cast. Even though the Amitabh Bachchan movie starred Taapsee Pannu, Amitabh’s portrayal as the intense lawyer definitely upped the ante. To sum it up, the film tries to explain when a girl says no, (she could be anyone, your girlfriend, your date, your wife or even a sex worker) it means a NO.

4. Black (2005)

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black was a story about Michelle McNally (Rani Mukerji), a blind, dumb and deaf woman and her teacher Debraj Sahai (Amitabh Bachchan). Michelle’s life was almost like a living hell until she meets Debraj, who brings some light into her dark world.

Apart from stellar direction, the performances of the two leads in the Amitabh Bachchan movie really made a place in the hearts of people. Rani Mukerji is successful in portraying the frustration that a deaf, mute and blind person would feel and Amitabh cuts an inspiring figure as her teacher.

5. Sholay (1975)

There is not much more to say about Sholay than what has already been said. The film is probably the most popular in the history of Indian cinema. Sholay is set in a small village which is constantly being harassed by a bandit Gabbar (Amjad Khan) and his gang. Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar), a former police officer hires outlaws Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra) with the aim of dealing with Gabbar.

Comedy, action, drama, romance, and of course friendship were all there in spades in the film. Bachchan’s laid back, introverted Jai was as much appreciated as the bombastic Veeru played by Dharmendra.
